The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, is a city state and one of the states of the Federal Republic of Germany. With more than 1.8 million inhabitants, Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city, the sixth largest city in the European Union and the largest city that is not the capital of one of the EU Member States. The city of Hamburg has many facets: Hanseatic city, business location and culture metropolis. The port of Hamburg is Germany’s largest seaport and one of the twenty largest container ports in the world.
In addition, since 1982, Hamburg has been the seat of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the most important United Nations body in Germany.
